I loved being with Gaby and Al. He always had great stories to tell and his love and pride of his family was so obvious. What a fine man and what a great loss. |

This picture was taken by my dad, Russell Stinebring. The story goes that my dad and family were on a trip to Times Square, New York. My dad said that if you stand in Times Square long enough that someone from your past will come along. Not 5 minutes later Al Korn, who had moved to California a year before, walked through Times Square with his sister. What a miracle. My dad and family reunited with Al during that trip. This picture was taken 8-21-49. My dad was taking the picture. Read More

We can't tell you how many interesting conversations we had with Mr. Korn. He and Nace would compare "back surgery" aches and pains, always ready with helpful fitness hints that might alleviate some of Nace's discomfort. Mr. Korn had the most positive outlook on life, and greeted every member of our family with a broad, warm and infectious smile whenever our paths crossed. Read More His generosity was unwavering. When Matt had outgrown his basketball hoop, Mr. Korn offered it to our son, Frank. As Frank and his friends brought the hoop back to life, Matt would come by and shoot a few hoops, or maybe head up to the courts for a quick game of tennis with Frank. There may have been a large gap in our childrens' ages; however, the respect and kindness displayed by the Korn children and their parents was ever present. We are grateful to have had Mr. Korn touch our lives. |

There isn't one time that I ever visited my grandparents, beginning when I was a small child, that they didn't show us pictures of Al or mention his name or tell us the latest news about his family. They especially loved to show us pictures of his lovely children. I'm enclosing a picture of Al, my Uncle Russ and my grandparents taken I believe around the year 1948/1949 when he stayed with my grandparents. Read More

I knew Al as “Mr. Korn,” Matt’s Dad, and a true gentleman… He was always excited to see the many things Matt and Naomi were up to and witnessed life with a contagious smile. He treated me as a member of the family when I would come over and always had funny stories to tell us… oddly enough, I think he laughed more than we did, which was hard to do! He and his families’ kindness is something that I have carried with me, my entire life and though he may not have known it; through his example, he is one of the first people who taught me about inclusion and respect for everyone. To a life well lived and a job well done… Mr. Korn - you will be missed. |

Al was a very special part of my life, and I always looked forward to the times when our paths would cross because of how much I enjoyed being around him. Read More Al's enthusiasm for life was infectious. He would always encourage my husband and me to exercise and stay healthy. Whether it be his unbelievable stamina for swimming 25 laps in the morning, or his impressive flexibility in his yoga class, Al was truly an inspiration when it came to staying active and believing "age is just a number." Al was so friendly, loyal and humorous. There was never any time where he didn't have a smile to greet you with, an animated expression on his face while he spoke, then a soft touch or hug to bid you goodbye. He would even continue to smile and wave to you as he walked away. It truly was a blessing to have Al in our lives. I will always appreciate his amazing life story of perseverance and steadfastness, how much he sacrificed for his family, his unconditional love, and tremendous wisdom. As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." |

I met Al at the JCC in Belmont many years ago. We often worked out at the same time. He really took care of himself. Al told me of his personal history throughout the years. He always had a smile and was delight to talk with. I haven't seen Al since the JCC closed several years ago and was saddened by his passing. |

On one of my work days at the PJCC I saw Al in the hallway and he gave me his usual great smile. He looked at my leather jacket and said, "That is a great jacket, Claudia." The jacket is one of my few designer pieces, and after he was past me I burst into silent laughter, thinking, "How much fun is this, that a man who must be 75 spoke to me like a 30 year old?" There was nobody like him. |

I know that Al respected and loved my cousin, Gaby, dearly. I was moved by his visible respect for her because she is a wonderful person with special qualities. |

I was only with Al on a few occasions but he was always very charming, gracious and forever smiling. He will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him. Oh, yes, I remember his love of his Cougar. |

Trevor and Kylie were the apple of his eye. He was so amazed at how well Trevor built and constructed lego and block towers. He always said, "Maybe Trevor will be an architect one day, wouldn't that be great!" Read More
